Cross Country League Changes
This fall Piner and Elsie Allen are moving to the Sonoma County League while Windsor and Casa Grande are moving to the North Bay League.
This will be a home coming of sorts for Piner as they return to the league they started in while it will be new territory for Casa Grande, Windsor and Elsie Allen.
From the little I have heard, the reason for these switches have to do with what the general public considers the big sports like football were Elsie Allen and Piner were often playing very strong NBL teams and scores were often 50-0.

In Cross Country however Piner has had the top team in the area as of late.
Piner in 2012 will also drop down in post season divisions as they will compete in Division IV this year as they have been in III since at least 2008.
Piner graduated their number 1, 4, 5 & 6 runner from there 2011 NBL Finals team, yet they still have five runners returning from that meet whose team time would equal 80:17. In comparison Sonoma won the SCL title last year with a school record 82:30 and has five returning at 86:27. Only the Petaluma High teams of 2007-2010 have run faster in the SCL than what Piner has returning.
2012 Petaluma has five returning that equal 85:06, actually faster than 2011 taem, because they had 2 fast boys run JV in the 2011 meet than who they had on their Varsity squad.
Casa Grande has all five returning at 86:50. Elsie Allen only has two returning boys from 2011.

2011 SCL Varsity Finals
1 Sonoma 32pts 82:30, School Record

Without the league changes this would have probably been Petaluma and Casa Grande battling for SCL title, now it looks like a run away for Piner.

Coastal Mountain Conference
Last years scores from the finals had Sonoma Academy way ahead of the rest of the CMC scoring 20 points to Cloverdale at 94.
With only five of the top 25 graduating it does not look like much will change.
The top four returning are all from Sonoma Academy with Jax Reiff as the top runner, shown just above.

This basically means the quality of the NBL should be a lot stronger in 2013bthan last year, while the SCL should drop noticeably.
Last year the top 6 from NBL, SCL and two other leagues advanced to NCS Redwood Empire. Looking at last years marks for those places it appears it was already a lot tougher to move on from NBL than the SCL. If it stays at 6 each for 2013 and the team realignments do move two of the strongest from the SCL to the NBL than qualifying will probably be even more unbalanced this spring.
