As mentioned in an earlier post, Piner’s Armand Moreno held the Redwood Empire record in the 3200 meter run from 1978 until it was broken in 2009 by Petaluma’s Sterling Lockert.
Last year Santa Rosa’s Reesey Byers caused that new record to last a mere year with our first ever sub nine at 8:59.89.
Now Moreno has lost even his school record as Piner’s Luis Luna broke his mark by winning the Woody Wilson Relays on April 15th with a time of 9:04.38 at UC Davis.
Even more impressive for Luna is that he is still just a junior.
His 9:04.38 is now 3rd All-Time behind Byers and Lockert and it is also the fastest ever run by a junior, replacing the 9:06.93 time of Byers from 2009.
