Sonoma Academy’s Kiana Herold finished 8th at 5-6 in the high jump.
Healdsburg’s Helen Ann Haun finished 9th at 11-5.75 in the pole vault.
Kathleen started out in the first round with a 132-10 mark that left her in 3rd at the end of the round as as five of the 12 fouled their first throw.
In the second round she improved her mark with a 135-7 throw but fell back to 7th place, as others pushed their marks past hers.
No improvement in the third round as she threw 134-0 and slipped back to 8th place.
No change in placed at end of the fourth round as she threw 131-11.
With two throws left and needing a big throw to medal Durand had the throw of her life destroying her old Empire record with a huge 144-3 distance and moving her all the way up to fourth.
That mark held up for fourth as she finished with hers, and the Empires, fourth farthest throw ever at 138-10. This second best throw of the day would have still gotten her a medal without the big 144-3 mark.
Durand’s worst throw of the day, 131-11, has only been better by four girls in Empire history.
