Danielle Steffen favored to win State Indoor

Petaluma’s Danielle Steffen is the top ranked pole vaulter for Saturday’s High School State Indoor Championships in Fresno. Steffen, Nicole Lane and Courtney Tuck all placed 3rd in last years Indoor State Meet. All NorCal Cross Country Teams

The 2011 All NorCal High School XC Teams have been selected and the Redwood Empire had some high placers. Piner’s Luis Luna made first team All NorCal. Luna was the highest placing NorCal runner at the Foot Locker Nationals. Sonoma’s Alex Conner was picked second team and Ukiah’s Paul Holden was picked as one of the ten undergraduates to make the top three teams. Piner’s Jaime Silva made honorable mention. Luis Luna 30th in Nation

Piner’s Luis Luna concluded his high school cross country career with a 30th place finish at the 2011 Foot Locker Nationals at Morley Field in San Diego. Luna finished as the second California boy and was fifth for the West team. He is the second boy from the Redwood Empire to compete in this meet, the other being Elsie Allen’s Celedonio Rodriguez who placed 18th in 1998. Luis Luna qualifies for National Championships

Piner’s Luis Luna ran possible his best race of the year to qualify for the Foot Locker National Championships in Balboa Park, San Diego on Dec. 10th.   Competing in the West Regionals, Luna placed 7th in the seeded race at Mt. Sac on Dec 3rd to become one of the Western regions 10 qualifiers for the National meet.   Check running blog later in the week for a link to watch the National Championships on a live webcast.
