Alex Conner of Sonoma and Nicole Lane of El Molino continue to burn up the courses they are running on this year. Yesterday Conner broke the 11 year old Windsor high school course record by Analy’s Ruben Mora-Roma set back in 2000. Lane meanwhile took 28 seconds off her own record on El Molino’s course. El Molino’s Nicole Lane seems to be having a dream season as she wins major Invitationals again and again. Yesterday it was the Clovis Invitational in Fresno. Competing in the Division IV race against 169 runners, on the course that will be used later in the year to host the State finals, Lane finished in 18:24, seven seconds ahead of second place. The North Bay and Sonoma County leagues kicked off there league seasons Wednesday with some huge performances. Two of the top North Coast Section teams, Santa Rosa & Maria Carrillo went head to head at Spring Lake State Park. Santa Rosa’s Michael Tomasi won the boys race and lead his team to the win over Carrillo 25-31. Piner’s Luis Luna and El Molino’s Nicole Lane each won the senior race at the Scott Bauhs Invitational and had the fastest overall time of all divisions. Piner Junior Jaime Silva and Sophomore Efren Reyes also won their races. The Scott Bauhs races are broken up by grade levels. Piner’s Luis Luna and Cardinal Newman’s Alexi Taylor each won their divisions at the prestigious Stanford cross country Invitational Saturday. Luna’s 5K time of 15:08 is faster than any Empire runner has ever run. Sonoma’s Alex Conner was 2nd to Luna in 15:22 in the division III race, the 4th fastest 5K in Empire History.
