Cardinal Newman’s Nolan Nagle dominated the throws at the Windsor Relays track meet on Saturday at Windsor High.
His discus mark of 157-0 is the best in the North Coast Section so far this year, and his shot put mark of 54-7 1/2 moved him into the Redwood Empire’s all-time top 20.
“My second discus toss was my farthest,” said Nagle. “It was good to get a personal best. I hope to reach 57 and 170 this year. I don’t worry much about what place I am in because I know if I hit the marks I am after the marks will carry me through the year.”
On the track Ukiah’s Hugh Pegan did some dominating of his own.
Pegan won the 100 meter dash in a new prep best 11.45 and ran legs on his team’s winning 1600 relay and the winning coed 800 relay. On the field he also placed second (39-4½) to teammate Lai Wong (40-1) in the triple jump.
When asked about the three wins and a second, Pegan himself did not even realize he had done that well. “That’s pretty cool,” said Pegan. And on his prep best in the 100 he said, “A season PR always feels good, you raise the bar for yourself.”
Windsor’s own Zach Price pulled off double individual wins in the 1500 (4:14.64) and 800 (2:05.64) along with a single win by pole vaulter Andy Kotval (12-6) and in the high hurdles by sophomore G. Tavares in 16.64.
Other individual wins on the boy’s side came from Casey Mancini of El Molino in the high jump (6-0),
Cardinal Newman’s Beau Muster (LJ 19-5¾), Sonoma Academy’s Austin Orr (400 52.84) and Rincon Valley Christians Hakpin (300IH 44.28).
For the girls, Windsor’s Amanda Morton won both hurdle races in 17.00 and 53.49. Her high hurdle mark was a new 2013 prep best.
Sonoma Academy’s Kiana Herold moved onto the Empire’s all-time list with a 16-11 long jump and also won the high jump with an excellent 5-2 jump.
Windsor’s Nicole Purter pulled off a rare double winning the disus at 111-3 and running the lead-off leg on the winning 400 relay team in 53.13.
“We are working towards the school record in the relay.” said Purter.
It doesn’t hurt to have the current fastest 100 runner in the area on that team in Nicole Kemper, who won the open 100 today in a new prep best of 13.22.
Windsor helped dominate their own meet with wins by
Julianna Mendez (1500 5:13.97, 800 2:32.95), and their girls 1600 relay (4:36.75) and the coed distance medley relay (12:41.12).
Other winners included Ukiah’s Allyson Milone (SP 35-1¼), Rincon Valley Christian’s Allyson Bricker (400 64.97) and Analy’s Allison McIntyre (TJ 33-6½).
