Santa Rosa High School’s Doug Courtemarche is surely still recovering from putting on the 20th Annual Big Cat Invitational on Saturday, but I’m also sure he is pleased with the results.
This meet typically kicks off the year for Empire track and produces some amazing marks for this early in the year. The 2012 edition was no exception.
Boys
Top individual mark of the meet was probably Casa Grande’s Adam Lundquist 39.73 300m hurdle win. That time is his fastest ever and third fastest in Sonoma County League history. Only Healdsburg‘s Eric Arneson (39.24 2009) and Casa’s James Grant (39.63 2008) are faster. It is the number two time in the State so far this year. Adam was also a double winner, first winning the high hurdles in a very impressive 14.77.
Other double winners included Cardinal Newman’s Alexi Taylor (4:30.62 1600m, 2:01.85 800m), Rancho Cotate’s Nick DeSoto (6-4 HJ, 140-1 DT) and Casa Grande’s Brycen Poarch (20-6½ LJ, 41-0½ TJ).

Girls
The girls’ meet had some top notch competition in the vertical jumps.
Coming off their indoor meet first and second place finishes in the pole vault, Maria Carrillo’s Siobhan Anderson this time took the top place breaking her school record with an 11-6 vault. Petaluma’s Danielle Steffen also cleared 11-6 but Siobhan had no misses until her close attempts at 12 feet.

In the girls high jump Windsor’s Devon Brook tied her school record for third place at 5-2, Santa Rosa’s Morgan Bertsch took second with a personal best 5-4 on her third attempt and Petaluma’s Courtney Tuck won with the same height clearing on her second attempt.
One of the highlights for Courtemarche was seeing his girls discus throwers take 1st Aubrea Gray 106-5, Alicia Beltran 3rd 101-1, Georgi Ryan 4th 98-8 and Marisa Troppy 6th 95-11.
Double winners included Santa Rosa’s Barbara Moretto (17.62 100H, 49.70 300H) and
Maria Carrillo’s Laurel Sheppard (16-7 LJ, 34-0¾ TJ).
