With the Sonoma County League cross country finals just days away, one of it’s former stars is now starring in something very different.

Casa Grande’s Nate Kabanuck was one of the star distance runners of the late 90’s, named Redwood Empire Runner of the Year in 1999.

His first shining moment was probably as a sophomore in 1997 when he won the SCL cross country finals at Spring Lake in 16:04.
He repeated in 1999 winning by 38 seconds.
He broke the then used 2.74 mile Beebe Ranch course in Petaluma, used from 1992-2001, in 16:10 surpassing the mark of 16:25 by Ricky Esponda of Casa Grande, set in 1992, and never bettered.
That same season he was the North Coast Section Division III champion and placed 4th at State on the Woodward Park 5K course in 15:56.

Today he is one of the contestants on the show, “Sweet Home Alabama”.
